Morris Lapidus
architectflamboyant postmodern architect who designed several gaudy yet glamorous hotels in South Florida. His work, which shunned the straight line and favored curvy, theatrical elements, was initially derided by critics, who considered his designs kitschy. Opinion of him changed, however, when Miami Beach became a trendy refuge of the jet set. His most famous designs include Miami Beach's Fontainebleau Hilton.
